7 Creative Staircase Ideas

Here are some really creative ideas that will make you want to take out your existing staircase and ask Sant Claus for a new one this Christmas!

Whether it is a simple DIY design to make simple alterations to your existing staircase or an extravagant and luxurious design and you’re looking to install a brand new staircase – here are a few great ideas to get your creativity flowing.

Bromsgrove Refurbishment

1. The Glass Staircase

If you want to simply refurbish an old staircase, adding glass balustrades is a fabulous way to upgrade your style. It will add much more light to the room, particularly if your hall or landing is small and has no natural light. It will also open the space up, giving a contemporary modern feel to the hallway and will add a touch of elegance too. The only downside of having a glass staircase is that you will find yourself wiping fingerprints off the glass fairly often, especially if you have children in your home!

2. Pull Out Staircase Storage

This is a great solution for increasing your storage space. Pull-out drawers and racks are ideal for storing away shoes and boots, winter clothing, and maybe a bottle or 2 whilst also still having all those things to hand. Everyone sits on the stairs putting on and removing their shoes so what would be better than dropping them straight into a shoe rack under the stairs?  This design needs careful planning and some serious DIY skills to build smooth operating storage that slides in and out of place.  Perfect for hallways that have limited space for stand alone furniture.

3. Floating Staircases

These are stunning centrepieces for welcoming visitors into your home.  Floating staircases take up less room than staircases which are boxed in with handrails and risers, making a room feel more spacious and brighter not to mention, creating a  real talking point. To i nstall a floating staircase you would need to ensure the wall the stair treads are fixed to is strong enough to take the weight structurally. Otherwise, the design and installation are relatively easy compared to a traditional staircase.

4. Staircases and Slides

We’ve all seen these in the Google offices. If you want to add much fun to your house, why not integrate a slide into your stairs? Children and adults would surely love this!  A staircase with a slide doesn’t have to be expensive and is an achievable DIY project.  There are a plethora of tutorials showing you how to go about doing it.

5. Spiral Staircases

Spiral staircases are great designs for where space is limited. By nature, their design means they have a small footprint underneath them and can be installed into tight vertical spaces, without the need for a large area to rise to a landing. They are particularly useful for moving from a landing into a loft space. Spiral staircases can be styled in industrial, modern and classic designs using timber, metal glass or a combination of materials. They are unique and add a really interesting feature to a room.

6. Painted and Patterned Staircases

If you are on a really tight budget painting a staircase is a really simple way to add some style and give it a brand new lease of life. Try an ombre or patterned paint scheme to show some flair. You can be as bold as you like, with vibrant colours and geometrical patterns. You could also choose something more simple and elegant, like colourful spindles. We think this is definitely the way forwards for homes on a budget this year.

7. Bookcase Staircase

This is one for those who love to keep books but don’t have the space for a personal library. It is a perfect example of how to integrate storage within a staircase, in a really simple and effective way. This is not for homes that like an uncluttered design, but if you like quirky and a good novel, this would absolutely make a stunning staircase feature!
